The Children of the Gods Final Cut - It is a Lucas-esque Edit of the SG-1 pilot.

They removed Sams' "Inside/outside" bit along with "Rank, not salutation" (and therefore changed the cartouche-room entrance scene to just "Doctor Carter" rather than "Captain... Doctor..." and O'Neills comment of "Thought you wanted to be called Captain."

... Therefore making new vewiers who watch CotG:FC then the rest of the series wondering, "Why's daniel calling her Captain, not Doctor?" the rest of the time (when he uses her rank pre-C>M promotion)

You know, I really have to wonder if the reason why they did that was to reduce the antagonistic air that existed between Jack and Sam in the pilot. Rob Cooper wasn't in charge back when it was filmed, and maybe he didn't like that. I do have to admit that Sam in the pilot was very different from the way she was later. She definitely seemed to have a very big chip on her shoulder regarding being a woman in the military. She did not have that air about her after the pilot. Sure, you could say that whomever her direct superior was at the Pentagon was old school military and didn't believe in women serving in the military, but the difference between Sam's attitude in CotG and everything after it was so dramatic. Also, as someone pointed out, in the real world, a female officer in the military would never say those things about reproductive organs to a superior officer. It was disrespectful. It's actually quite surprising that no one in the room told her that she was out of line.

But I agree that they shouldn't have cut the rank/salutation thing. For a while, Daniel sometimes called Sam "Captain-Doctor", clearly not sure what title he should use, and new viewers would wonder why.

What bothers me more, however, is that I heard that they cut the scene between Jack and Kawalsky when they were talking about Skarra, the other Abydos kids and Jack's son. Why the heck would they cut that? It sounds like they were chopping out a lot of character interaction to make the movie faster paced. They also redubbed Chris Judge's voice, changed the music, and changed the special effects to more CGI and less practical effects (non CGI). I wonder if they also got rid of the odd gold tone that Teal'c's skin had back then.

I understand from someone that the cartouche room scene is longer, with more interaction between Daniel and Sam. Is that so? At least that would be one good thing.

I've put it in my Netflix queue, but the only real reason for me to watch it would be the added scenes. I won't be buying it. My money would be better spent on other things.

BTW, can you believe that, before they got it, some people thought this was another new movie? How the heck they could think that is beyond me. Obviously, they never saw the TV advertisements for it and didn't bother to read what was on the box. It says "Final Cut" right on the front, and if they'd read the back, I would have thought that they'd have recognized the plot. Clearly, they also never knew what the title of the pilot was.
Dr. Markov: If you're implying that everything Russian-made is poor quality, actually the sub is Swiss.
Daniel: So they occasionally catch fire, but they keep perfect time? Sorry. I think I've been hanging around Jack O'Neill too much.

They cut the line that said Kawalski didn't know Jack had a son - the rest of the scene is there.

and the pacing is... well to be honest, I'm a bit iffy on the pacing. and it now seems like some lines are forced where before they weren't.

I do like how instead of that UberGlider, it's a Cargo ship w/ 2 gliders escorting (and Jack and Teal'c take down one, then that stinger takes the other down.)
and the 'couldn't they, drift apart' bit in the cartouche room Really does seem FORCED. I don't like many of the changes.

one other thing - I really hate the audio track.

It plays through my center speaker, and ONLY my centre speaker.
that or the file I have on it is... iffy.

Jury still out on whether I should actually buy the damn DVD or not.
